My name is Mark Rogers and welcome to my lair in the digital dimension.
I am a narrative artist, storyteller and illustrator obsessed with world building. My paintings take place in a magickal land called, the Southwestern Bellows—a human breakaway that looks like California in the 1850s. This imaginary land is home to cactus witches, crystal wizards, gold-eating immortal aliens, and a whole host of paranormal creatures. Drawing inspiration from medieval art, history museums, folklore, and UFOlogy, my work explores several reoccurring themes: Humans making contact with the supernatural, per-industrial technology vs advanced technology, and the idea of pioneering people—and aliens—settling dangerous, mysterious worlds.
Basically, I write short stories and paint about them. I aim to create oil paintings that are beautiful and mysterious, eerie and humorous. My work often falls into art moments like: Pop Surrealism, Surrealism Lowbrow, Magical Realism, Sci-Art, and Narrative Art, but honestly, I just paint what I paint.
